Using Personal Injury Protection (PIP)

As with other states like New York and Pennsylvania, Florida drivers with a license must abide by ‘No-Fault’ statutes.

These laws require any man or woman with a driver’s license to carry $10,000 worth of personal injury protection insurance or PIP. In the event of an accident, your PIP policy will go into effect to compensate for medical bills and other financial losses.

The Bradenton-Sarasota area lawyers at Flynn Law offer vast knowledge with auto accident, criminal, and personal injury claims. Their experience can help you better understand the ways that men and women are able to use PIP coverage after an auto accident.

What Does PIP Insurance Cover?

PIP policies are put in place to protect Florida drivers no matter who’s at fault in an accident.

The one requirement, however, is that injured parties must see a doctor within 14 days of the incident. If you do not, you will forfeit your right to claim any of the $10,000 compensation and will be solely responsible for any costs incurred.

After you’ve seen a doctor and received a diagnosis for your emergency condition, you may be eligible for up to:

  • 80% of medical fees, including dental, prescription costs, ambulatory services, and rehab
  • 60% of lost employment wages
  • Mileage reimbursement for travel to-and-from doctor’s appointments
  • $5,000 in death benefits, outside of the entitled medical and disability coverage offered under through the policy

If your injury is not considered an ‘emergency condition’ you may only qualify to receive $2,500. PIP basic coverage also does not cover specific treatments, including:

  • Massage therapy
  • Acupuncture
Hiring a Personal Injury Attorney in the Bradenton-Sarasota Area

Often, the amounts paid by PIP are not enough to handle all of your injury needs after an auto accident.

When this is the case, an experienced Florida personal injury lawyer can help protect your rights and obtain a better settlement to provide for your losses.

The personal injury process can be a confusing one. By choosing to hire an attorney, you will have the opportunity to focus on your recovery while they handle the ins and outs of your case.

I was referred to Sean Flynn (Flynn Law) by a neighbor/friend. Mr. Flynn had helped his family out with an issue in the past, so I called Mr. Flynn to get help on a legal matter. I drove to his office to meet with him and he solved my problem on the same day... Joey D.
