PIP coverage pays medical expenses as well as certain non-medical-related costs associated with the accident, such as lost wages, prescriptions, mileage and the costs of hiring someone to do household chores.

You may also be entitled to recover your non-economic damages, such as pain and suffering, as long as you were not at fault in the accident, from the at-fault driver's insurance company and your injury meets the threshold. In Florida, that threshold is: (a) permanent injury, (b) significant and permanent loss of an important bodily function, (c) significant and permanent scarring or disfigurement, or (d) death.
